The Yogic/Ayurvedic Lifestyle recognizes the importance of periodic cleansing and detoxification to maintain our optimal health. It is strongly suggested we complete a deep detoxification in the spring and a milder cleanse in the autumn. These two times of the year are recognized by the significant changes we see in nature. These pivotal points of the year offer us dramatic shifts in the weather and the predominant elemental qualities expressed during the previous season and the dawning season.
The spring time detoxification is specifically designed to rid the body of accumulated Kapha (Earth/Water). As we see in nature, the warming and thawing from winter's deep cold gets the waters on the planet moving. Debris from the trees and bushes begin to flow and can, at times, clog streams and rivers. Kapha energy is like glue or clay (Earth and Water) which can heavy, sticky, and sluggish. The same springtime qualities we see in nature are true in our bodies. Stagnant and often times toxic energies in our body held during the cold months of the year begin to thaw and move. This is the optimal time to work to loosen these toxins and then remove them from the body. If we neglect to detoxify in the spring, these toxins may then lodge themselves into our vulnerable tissues and potentially give rise to illness and disease. Cleansing in the spring is equivalent to farmers or gardeners preparing their soil for planting the year's seeds. We want to prepare a healthy foundation in our body and our mind for vibrant and healthy growth for the spring and summer which will in turn reward us with a healthy harvest in the autumn.

According to Ananda Marga Philosophy, the mind or Citta is pure consciousness. However, through embodied life experience, pure consciousness divides into 3 separate perceptions. Manas ( External Ego Identifications), Buddhi ( Discernment) and Ahamkara (Personal Ego Identification). The yogic practice, the aspirant learns to pull their awareness inward at 1st to the more stable Buddhi consciousness which then once established there begins the ascent toward self realization and eventually God realization. The journey toward greater clarity guides us through several layers that yoga philosophy describes as Kosas or Sheaths which surround the light of pure consciousness or Atma. These layers or sheathes of consciousness have been described in detail in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras.
Our 8 month long journey will be a deep dive into these sheaths to reveal how through contemplation, clearing of karmas (patterns of actions), clearing of Samskaras (conditioned responses) and integration of the deeper truth of our being we will...
